Employer ordered to pay MPF non-payment
***************************************

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (December 30) pursued a claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $2,400 on behalf of one employee, who was owed MPF contributions by the employer.

The defendant, Wong Man trading as Chow's Engineering & Maintenance Company, did not appear at today's hearing.  In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $2,425.5, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharge payable.

The amount awarded will be reimbursed to the employee's MPF account as soon as it is received by the MPFA.  The court further awarded a payment of $130 as the cost of the claim.
