Appeal for information of fatal traffic accident in North Point
**********************************************************

Police are appealing to members of the public to provide information on a traffic accident in which a 52-year-old man was killed in North Point on December 21.

At about 1.20 pm on December 21, a public light bus, followed by a light goods vehicle (LGV) was travelling along the second left lane of the westbound Island Eastern Corridor.

When the public light bus reached near Oil Street in North Point, it slowed down to comply with the traffic condition ahead but the LGV following behind failed to stop in time and rammed the rear part of the public light bus.

The driver of the LGV, a 52-year-old man, and his passenger, a 62-year-old man, were trapped inside the compartment and were finally rescued by firemen.

The driver was immediately rushed to Ruttonjee Hospital and later transferred to the Queen Mary Hospital for medical treatment where he was later certified dead at 11.20 pm on the same day while the 62-year-old passenger was sent to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital for treatment.

The case is now being investigated by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic Hong Kong Island.

Anyone who has witnessed the accident is urged to contact the Report Room of Traffic Hong Kong Island on 3106 8800.
