A 21 year-old male person in custody attacked correctional staff at Pik Uk Prison today (July 4).
At 3.05pm, correctional officers took disciplinary action against the person in custody for his breach of discipline. He suddenly turned emotional and assaulted a correctional officer with his hands. The staff at scene immediately stopped him. OC foam was used to subdue the person in custody after warnings were given in vain.
Two correctional officers and the assailant sustained minor injuries. They were in satisfactory condition after examination and treatment provided by the medical officer at the centre hospital. They did not need to be referred to an outside hospital.
The Correctional Services Department has referred the incident to the Police for investigation.
The assailant was sentenced for the offence of theft.
