The exhibition "Claude Monet: The Spirit of Place" now being held at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum has been well received by the public. The exhibition is now entering its final week. To allow more visitors to view the masterpieces by Monet, the museum will extend its opening hours to 8pm on the last day of the exhibition (July 11).
Since its opening on May 4, the exhibition has received more than 200 000 visitors with an average daily attendance of about 3 800 visitors. It is expected that the exhibition will attract more than 220 000 visitors in total.
The spokesperson for the Hong Kong Heritage Museum today (July 4) said, "As the exhibition will close in a week, members of the public should grab the final opportunity to visit the exhibition this week. Visitors are advised to plan ahead for their visit arrangements and to see the exhibition on weekdays to avoid overcrowding at weekends."
The exhibition is open from 10am to 6pm on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, and from 10am to 8pm on Wednesdays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. The museum is closed on Tuesdays. The opening hours on July 11 (next Monday) are 10am to 8pm.
The "Claude Monet: The Spirit of Place" exhibition is the largest thematic exhibition of paintings by Monet, the master of Impressionism, ever held in Hong Kong. The exhibition features 17 artworks, including some of Monet's emblematic masterpieces conserved in French public collections. With the aid of audio-visual and multimedia display, visitors are able to follow the footprints of Monet and feel the natural beauty and spirit of place conveyed by his brushstrokes.
The exhibition is jointly presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and Le French May, and co-organised by the Hong Kong Heritage Museum and the Réunion des musées nationaux - Grand Palais, with major sponsorship from Mr and Mrs Cheung Chung-kiu and major support from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. The exhibition is also supported by the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau.
The Hong Kong Heritage Museum is located at 1 Man Lam Road, Sha Tin. For details of the exhibition and related programmes, please visit the website at www.heritagemuseum.gov.hk/en_US/web/hm/exhibitions/data/exid234.html or call 2180 8188 for enquiries.
