Police officers issued a total of 1,424 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 82 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island today (May 7).
The operation concluded at 7pm and a total of 242 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western Districts were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.
A total of 1,238 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 186 for other traffic offences.
Besides, eight pedestrians and one driver were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.
Statistics revealed that a total of 963 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to April this year, of which 284 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 39.1 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
