Employer and operator fined for violation of safety legislation

     China Overseas (Hong Kong) Limited and a crane operator were fined $18,000 and $12,000 respectively at Shatin Magistrates' Courts today (March 21) for violation of the Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance and the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance respectively. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.

     The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on December 9, 2013, on a construction site in Tai Po. A welder was struck to death by a falling bored pile casing that was mistakenly lowered by a crawler-mounted crane.
