Cluster of Drug Resistant Acinetobacter cases at Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital made the following announcement today (March 18):

     Five female patients (aged 66 to 95) in a mixed medical ward have been confirmed to have Drug Resistant Acinetobacter since February 25. All the patients are still hospitalised under medical surveillance and isolation. Four of them are in a stable condition, while one is critical.

     The following enhanced infection control measures have already been adopted:

1. Enhance cleansing and disinfection of the ward concerned;
2. Apply stringent contact precautions, including dedicated use of clinical equipment for the patients concerned in the ward and enhance hand hygiene;
3. Perform contact tracing of the ward concerned; and
4. Enhance environmental samplings for monitoring.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up. The hospital will continue to closely monitor the situation of the ward.
