Castelo Investments Limited was fined $66,000 for committing wage offences under the Employment Ordinance at the Eastern Magistrates' Courts today (March 4). The prosecution was launched by the Labour Department.
The company failed to pay wages to an employee within seven days after the expiry of the wage period, as required by Section 23 of the Employment Ordinance. The total amount of payment involved was about $40,000.
"The judgment would disseminate a strong message to all employers that they have to pay wages to employees in accordance with the Employment Ordinance," a spokesman for the Labour Department said.
"The Labour Department does not tolerate the above offences and will spare no effort in enforcing the law and protecting employees' statutory rights," the spokesman added.
