Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected cocaine and methamphetamine from passenger departing to Macau (with photo)
********************************************************

Hong Kong Customs seized about 13 grams of suspected cocaine and 7 grams of suspected methamphetamine at the Macau Ferry Terminal yesterday (February 27) and arrested a 29-year-old man. The market value of the drugs was about $16,000.

Customs officers intercepted a departing passenger at the Macau Ferry Terminal yesterday evening and found the suspected drugs concealed inside his sleeves.

The arrested man, claimed to be a casino staff, was charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug. He will appear at the Eastern Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (February 29).

Since last Christmas, Hong Kong Customs has strengthened enforcement efforts and mounted a series of special operations at the China Ferry Terminal and Macau Ferry Terminal to interdict drug trafficking activities. As a result, Hong Kong Customs detected a total of six trafficking cases and arrested six departing passengers.

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
