Regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of patients with Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE) in a female Medicine and Geriatrics convalescence ward, the spokesperson for Pok Oi Hospital made the following update today (January 30):
The hospital has performed contact tracing in accordance with the prevailing infection control guidelines and confirmed one more female patient aged 86 to have VRE. The patient is being hospitalised under isolation with stable condition.
The hospital will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation of the wards. The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
