The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Lau Kong-wah, continued his visit with representatives of major Hong Kong performing arts groups and personnel from the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority in Beijing today (January 29).
They visited the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in the morning. The NCPA is the largest comprehensive theatre facility in Asia with three professional theatres and one multi-functional theatre. Among them, the Theatre, equipped with mechanical stage equipment and an extendable forestage, is particularly suitable for traditional Chinese opera performances. A number of major performing arts groups from Hong Kong have staged shows in the NCPA.
Mr Lau and the delegation visited the Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center in the afternoon. The Center started operation at the end of last year and is positioned as a contemporary theatre. They will watch a performance by the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre at the Lyric Theater of the Center in the evening to gauge the reception of the local audience and the circumstances in which Hong Kong plays are staged on the Mainland.
Mr Lau will visit the National Library of China tomorrow morning (January 30) and return to Hong Kong in the afternoon.
