The following is issued on behalf of the Transport Advisory Committee:
As the current franchise of the Kowloon Motor Bus Company (1933) Limited (KMB) will expire on July 1, 2017, the Government plans to engage KMB for discussion on the granting of a new franchise for its bus network. The Transport Advisory Committee (TAC) today (January 26) discussed the requirements of the new franchise.
The TAC Chairman, Mr Larry Kwok, said, "Members are pleased to note that KMB has been providing a proper and efficient bus service. KMB has indicated an interest in applying for a new 10-year franchise, and is willing to continue to invest for further service enhancement. According to an independent survey by a consultancy firm commissioned by the Transport Department (TD), 85 per cent of respondents were satisfied with the overall service quality of KMB.
"Members noted that the Government would engage in discussion with KMB, with a view to concluding the discussion and granting a new 10-year franchise before expiry of the current franchise of KMB in mid-2017. Members have also offered some comments on the requirements of the new franchise for the bus network of KMB for the Government's reference. Members of the public may provide their views to the TD in writing from today until April 18 this year."
