Local drama group The Nonsensemakers will perform an adaptation of internationally acclaimed Hungarian writer Ágota Kristóf's novel "The Third Lie" in March.
In 2012, the Nonsensemakers presented Kristóf's "The Notebook" in a production that incorporated sand painting and masks, creating a unique viewing experience for audiences. Part two of Kristóf's trilogy, "The Proof" was staged by the group two years later. Integrating sand painting, masks and physical movement, the final title of the saga to be presented this year marks a perfect ending to the group's adaptation of these famous literary works.
Concluding Kristóf's trilogy, "The Third Lie" follows twin brothers who, born into chaotic times, become separated at a young age. A few decades later, one of them returns to his home town in an effort to trace his origins. During the journey he wonders whether his life is nothing but one big lie, or whether the world is flooded with dishonesty. When the two brothers meet again, the most brutal truth is unveiled.
This acclaimed production is adapted and directed by Rensen Chan and produced by Jo Ngai. They will perform with experienced actors including King Wong, Johnxon Tai, Yeung Kwok-ming and Kwong Hon-pan.
"The Third Lie" (in Cantonese) is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It will be staged at 8pm on March 18 and 19 (Friday and Saturday) and at 3pm on March 20 (Sunday) at the Auditorium of Tsuen Wan Town Hall. The matinee performance has enhanced audience accessibility, with Chinese subtitles, theatrical interpretation and Cantonese audio description. The programme contains adult and smoking scenes, and is suitable for those aged 12 or above.
