Anti-drug micro film premiere held tonight (with photos)
********************************************************

An anti-drug micro film jointly produced by the Narcotics Division (ND) of the Security Bureau, the Action Committee Against Narcotics (ACAN) and Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) Radio 2 was premiered tonight (December 18), attracting an audience of more than 200 from the community.

The anti-drug micro film, one of the publicity initiatives of the 2015 territory-wide campaign against youth drug abuse, aims to enhance public awareness, especially among youngsters, of the harms of drug abuse and to encourage drug abusers to seek early assistance so that they can lead a healthy life again.

The main characters of the film ruin their health and lives because of drug abuse and drug trafficking. Fortunately, they have a chance to return to the past to make the correct decision and finally put their lives back on the right track.

The film will be uploaded to the RTHK website and online social media platforms, and will be broadcast at the Hong Kong Jockey Club Drug InfoCentre.

Officiating at the premiere, the Commissioner for Narcotics, Mrs Erika Hui, said that drug abuse not only causes health damage, but also has adverse effects on one's family, social life and performance in school and work. She appealed to members of the public to intervene early if their family members or friends have drug problems by encouraging them to seek help early. People with drug problems can call the ND's 24-hour telephone helpline 186 186, or use the smartphone applications WhatsApp and WeChat to send messages to 98 186 186 to seek help.

With Christmas and New Year approaching, Mrs Hui reminded members of the public to stay vigilant and stand firm to resist drug temptation during the festive season. She said she was also very concerned about young people being exploited in drug trafficking activities. She urged youngsters not to be lured into drug trafficking as it is a serious offence with a maximum penalty of life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million upon conviction. She said the ND will continue to step up publicity to dispel the misguided belief that youths are less criminally culpable than adults in drug-related offences.

RTHK Radio 2 is one of the partners of the ND and ACAN in organising the territory-wide campaign against youth drug abuse in 2015. A series of programmes have been rolled out since the launch of the anti-drug campaign in June. In addition to the anti-drug micro film, anti-drug talks, visits to the Hong Kong Jockey Club Drug InfoCentre and radio programmes were also organised.

Other officiating guests at the premiere tonight included the Assistant Director of Broadcasting (Radio and Corporate Programming), Ms Lisa Liu, and director Alfred Hui. Scriptwriter and director Wong Ping-hung and the main cast, including Shiga Lin, Edward Ma, Benson Ling and Kity Choi, also attended the event.
