Following are the remarks made by the Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, tonight (November 16) at a vigil at Tamar Park in tribute to the victims of the November 13 Paris attacks:
Consul-General, friends of the French community in Hong Kong, ladies and gentlemen,
My wife Regina and I, and my government colleagues, want to be with you this evening to express again our support to you and condolences to all those people in France who lost their beloved ones and members of families. Once again, we condemn acts of terrorism which cost lives in France and in other cases in other parts of the world. We want to be here to let you know that Hong Kong stands firmly behind you, behind your government and behind your country.
My wife and I have to go to the airport to take an 8 o'clock flight to go to Manila in the Philippines to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting, so my apologies for not being able to stay with you. But I want you to know that the people of Hong Kong and the Government of Hong Kong are with you this evening.
