Hong Kong's 18 best young apprentices sacrificed their time - and some, their jobs - to compete in the 43rd WorldSkills Competition in S?o Paulo, Brazil, this August.
They came home with seven medallions for excellence in trades ranging from IT software solutions to beauty therapy.
The squad's success at what is often dubbed the skills Olympics highlighted an alternative to a university education: vocational training.
News.gov.hk spoke with three medallion winners who explained how competing against the world's top apprentices can inspire world-class excellence and introduce young people to a variety of skilled careers.
The story appears on news.gov.hk today (November 8) in both text and video format.
