To show care and respect for the elderly on Senior Citizens Day (November 15), the Social Welfare Department (SWD) has organised a joint concession programme with the catering sector again this year to offer special concessions to Senior Citizen Card holders.
An SWD spokesman said today (November 8) that an encouraging response was received from the catering sector and over 900 outlets in the 18 districts have pledged to join this territory-wide programme to offer at least a 10 per cent discount or other concessions to Senior Citizen Card holders for their purchases on the event day. A specially designed event poster (see annex) will be put up at prominent places at the participating shops for public identification.
The Senior Citizen Card Scheme (SCCS) was launched by the SWD in 1994 with an aim of promoting the spirit of care and respect for the elderly. Under the Scheme, Senior Citizen Cards are issued to eligible Hong Kong residents aged 65 or above for enjoying concessions or discounts offered by government departments, public organisations and private companies. The Scheme has gained support from various sectors of society since its implementation, and over 1 630 000 Senior Citizen Cards have been issued up to now. In addition, there are over 2 400 companies and organisations with more than 7 600 outlets participating in the SCCS and providing concessions to elderly people.
Details of the concessions and shops joining the joint concession programme can be downloaded from the SCCS mobile application and are available on the SWD website: www.swd.gov.hk/en/index/site_pubsvc/page_elderly/sub_csselderly/id_seniorciti/.
