Commission on Poverty convenes 10th meeting of its second term
**********************************************************

The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, chaired the 10th meeting of the Commission on Poverty (CoP) in its second term this afternoon (October 27). Discussions mainly focused on the draft consultation document for the upcoming public consultation on retirement protection in December.

Having regard to the CoP members' discussions on the framework and content of the consultation document at previous meetings, the Secretariat has prepared a draft version of the consultation document. Today's meeting discussed some of the chapters and the deliberations on the rest of the chapters will be continued at the next meeting.

The CoP Summit 2015 was held successfully on October 10. At today's meeting, members noted the views gauged at the open discussion session at the Summit and the subsequent meeting of the Legislative Council Subcommittee on Poverty on October 20. Members also discussed the actions required of the CoP and its four Task Forces.

In addition, following up on the discussions at the last meeting, members noted the latest progress of the Elderly Dental Assistance Programme under the Community Care Fund (CCF). Since September this year, the CCF has expanded the Programme to cover Old Age Living Allowance recipients in phases, starting with those aged 80 or above in the first phase. The response to the expanded Programme has been encouraging since its launch, with more than 6 330 applications received so far. Among these, first dental appointments for 6 100 eligible elderly recipients have been made. The CoP expressed its compliments to the Hong Kong Dental Association on its contributions for taking forward the Programme. To tie in with the launch of the "One-off Living Subsidy for Low-income Households Not Living in Public Housing and Not Receiving CSSA" programme for the third time in January next year, members agreed with the CCF to arrange newspaper supplements in November to enhance the publicity of the third-round programme and the work of the CCF.
