Over 200 orchestras and bands to participate in Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows

     Over 200 orchestras and bands from primary and secondary schools will participate in the 2015 Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows to be held from November 24 to December 17 in various districts.

     Organised by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the event provides an opportunity for students to conduct musical exchanges and gain performing experience in string orchestras, symphony orchestras, symphonic bands and Chinese orchestras.

     Fifty-four orchestras will participate in the String Orchestra Contest, with a total of four sessions to be held at the Concert Hall of the Hong Kong City Hall on November 24 and 25.

     Forty-six orchestras will take part in the Symphony Orchestra Contest, with a total of four sessions to be held at the Auditorium of Sha Tin Town Hall on December 1 and 2.

     Eighty-four bands will compete in the six classes of the Symphonic Band Contest at the Arena of Queen Elizabeth Stadium from December 8 to 12. The Gold Award winners of each class will compete for Grand Champion titles in the primary and secondary school categories at the Winners' Final on December 12. Acclaimed euphonium soloist Steven Mead will perform as a guest with the Hong Kong Youth Symphonic Band in the Final.

     Seventy-three orchestras will take part in the six classes of the Chinese Orchestra Contest at the Auditorium of Tuen Mun Town Hall from December 15 to 17.

     Tickets for the String Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra Contests are now available at URBTIX, while those for the Symphonic Band and Chinese Orchestra Contests will be available from November 8 and 15 onwards respectively. Tickets for each contest are priced at $40. Half-price concessions are available for full-time students, senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients.
