The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, visited the Office of the Communications Authority (OFCA) this afternoon (October 23) to better understand its operation and latest developments.
The visit started with a meeting with the Director-General of Communications, Miss Eliza Lee, as well as departmental management and grade representatives. Mrs Lam listened to a briefing on the work of various branches and different grades. OFCA is the executive arm and secretariat of the Communications Authority (CA), assisting the CA in administering and enforcing ordinances regulating broadcasting and telecommunications.
Accompanied by Miss Lee, Mrs Lam then toured the Office for Film, Newspaper and Article Administration, where she received a briefing on the enforcement of the Film Censorship Ordinance. She also inspected the facilities for film censorship, which include a theatre used by the Panel of Film Censorship Advisers comprising members of the public to classify films for public exhibition.
Mrs Lam then viewed a demonstration arranged by OFCA staff to better understand the differences in the technology and modes of transmission, as well as the regulatory framework, for different television services including domestic free television, mobile television and Internet television.
During the visit, Mrs Lam commended staff of OFCA for their tireless efforts in promoting the development of telecommunication services in Hong Kong. She encouraged them to continue to work with professionalism to maintain Hong Kong's prestigious status as a regional telecommunications hub.
Later, Mrs Lam toured the Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival to pledge her support for this annual event. She was joined by the Commissioner for Tourism, Miss Cathy Chu; the Chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, Dr Peter Lam; and the Executive Director of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, Mr Anthony Lau. Mrs Lam attended the festival in the past few years.
Mrs Lam was pleased to note that this year's festival is the largest ever and boasts more than 340 booths. The festival not only offers a great time for local people and tourists, but also reinforces the status of Hong Kong as the events capital of Asia and the region's leading wine distribution centre. This year, the festival has returned to the Central waterfront, where it is boosting the vibrancy of the promenade alongside Victoria Harbour.
