Four jazz groups will perform in an outdoor concert entitled "2015 Hong Kong International Jazz Festival - Outdoor Concert" at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza this Sunday (October 4) from 3pm to 7pm, offering an afternoon of enjoyable free performances for members of the public.
Noted local and overseas jazz musicians will take part in the performances. The line-up includes the Dock in Absolute (Luxembourg/Belgium), the Swing Brosse System (France), local group the Pentatonic Jazz Fusion Band and the ensemble Nate w/ The Wong Way Down comprising local and US musicians.
The trio Dock in Absolute was established by pianist Jean-Philippe Koch in 2012 to explore a new jazz style that at times becomes a fusion between classical music and jazz. The compositions and arrangements of their works range from jazz, electro, classical and pop to film music.
Swing Brosse System is a family jazz group and the name "Brosse" is formed by the initials of the members' names. The group comprises parents Bernard and Sara Laurent and their teenage children Rachel, Esther, Odenson and Sacha. The children started learning classical music, but soon played in a gypsy jazz band accompanied by their parents. They have performed over 100 concerts in several countries since 2010. The band has also conducted activities such as workshops to introduce jazz to children.
The Pentatonic Jazz Fusion Band incorporates Chinese and Western musical instruments and their music fuses Chinese folk elements with contemporary jazz harmony, funk rhythm and free jazz improvisation. Based in Hong Kong, the Chinese and Western sextet has constantly found boundaries to cross, combining genres and different cultures while exploring the unknown.
Jazz ensemble Nate w/ The Wong Way Down is a high-energy original jazz music collective comprising top Hong Kong professional musicians led by Nate Wong, a graduate of the Berklee College of Music. The group brings the classic jazz quintet sound into the modern age, and is influenced by the uniquely lively sound and pace of Hong Kong.
The outdoor concert is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department in association with the Hong Kong Jazz Association. For programme enquiries, please visit the website:
