The Secretary for Education, Mr Eddie Ng Hak-kim, today (September 30) continued to lead the National Day Delegation from the Educational Sector of Hong Kong 2015 to participate in professional exchange activities in Beijing.

More than 150 Hong Kong education workers joined the delegation this year, including representatives of tertiary institutions and principals and teachers of kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools.

Mr Ng today visited Peking University to meet and exchange views with its Vice President, Dr Li Yansong. He and the delegates also toured the university campus and attended a thematic talk on the "Belt and Road" initiative by Associate Professor Zhang Yaguang of the School of Economics of Peking University.

Mr Ng said, "The National Day Delegation is one of the key professional exchange activities of the education sector in Hong Kong. It can not only enhance participants' understanding of our country, but also promote the exchanges and co-operation between education workers of Beijing and Hong Kong.

"During this visit, members of the Hong Kong education sector will be able to gain a deeper understanding of various aspects of our country, such as higher education, research and development, the economy, history and culture."

Mr Ng expressed his special thanks to Professor Zhang for his thematic talk on the "Belt and Road" initiative. The talk enhanced Hong Kong education workers' understanding of the new initiative, prompting them to explore ways to equip students to grasp the opportunities brought about by our country's development.

He said he hoped that members of the education sector would continue to uphold their mission, with reference to Peking University's education spirit of "Freedom of Thought and Inclusiveness", to nurture Hong Kong students as creative, open-minded, visionary and committed young people.

During his visit to Beijing, Mr Ng took the opportunity to pay a courtesy call on the Deputy Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, Mr Zhou Bo, to provide an update on the recent developments of education in Hong Kong. He also joined a gathering with Hong Kong university students pursuing studies in Beijing and Tianjin to learn more about their campus and daily life.

Mr Ng will lead the delegation to attend the flag raising ceremony at Tiananmen Square on National Day tomorrow morning (October 1), and will return to Hong Kong in the afternoon.
