******************************************************

     The Transport Department (TD) today (September 29) reminded the public that special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented in Kowloon from about 1.45pm this Thursday (October 1) to facilitate the holding of a public procession.

     The special traffic and transport arrangements will mainly include:

Lane closure
------------

     Traffic lanes on the following road sections will be intermittently closed from about 1.45pm onwards:

1. Cheung Sha Wan Road (Mong Kok bound) between Cheung Sha Wan Playground and Wong Chuk Street;
2. Cheung Sha Wan Road (Mei Foo bound) between Wong Chuk Street and Boundary Street;
3. Nathan Road (Tsim Sha Tsui bound) between Boundary Street and Jordan Road;
4. Jordan Road (Kowloon Station bound) between Nathan Road and Canton Road; and
5. Canton Road (Star Ferry Pier bound) between Jordan Road and Salisbury Road.

Public transport services
-------------------------

     A total of 41 bus routes operating at the affected areas will be temporarily diverted. The public transport operators concerned will arrange publicity to inform passengers of the temporary arrangements.

     The TD anticipates that the traffic along procession route would be affected. Motorists are advised to avoid driving to the affected roads. In case of traffic congestion, motorists should exercise tolerance and patience, and follow the instructions of the Police. Members of the public who plan to go to the affected areas are advised to use public transport services as far as possible.

     The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate measures whenever necessary. Motorists and the public are advised to follow the latest traffic news broadcast by TV and radio channels.

     Details of the special traffic and transport arrangements are available at the TD's website (www.td.gov.hk). For further enquiries, please call 1823.
