The spokesperson for Ruttonjee and Tang Shiu Kin Hospitals made the following announcement today (September 2):
Five male patients (aged 52 to 83) of a medical ward in Ruttonjee Hospital have been confirmed as having Multi-drug Resistant Acinetobacter since August 3. Two of them have already been discharged. The three remaining patients are still hospitalised under medical surveillance and isolation with stable condition.
Enhanced infection control measures have been adopted, including:
1. Enhanced hand hygiene and stringent contact precautions;
2. Enhanced attention to contamination-prone procedures; and
3. Enhanced disinfection and cleaning of the ward concerned.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up. The hospital Infection Control Team will continue to closely monitor the situation.
