Sham Shui Po District Council Yan Oi Tong Mei Foo Neighbour Activity Centre - Memorandum of Co-operation Signing cum Kick-off Ceremony (with photo)

     The Sham Shui Po District Council (SSPDC), the Sham Shui Po District Office (SSPDO) and Yan Oi Tong (YOT) organised a kick-off ceremony for Mei Foo Neighourhood Activity Centre (the Centre) today (June 14) at Mei Foo Community Centre to promote the proposed Centre among local residents.

     Officiating at the ceremony included the Chairman of the SSPDC, Mr Jimmy Kwok; the District Officer (Sham Shui Po), Mr Benjamin Mok and the Chairperson of the 36th term Board of Directors of YOT, Mrs Kimmy Shi. The SSPDO and YOT signed a memorandum of co-operation on the proposed Centre which confirmed that YOT will be the operator of the Centre. The memorandum also established collaboration between the SSPDC and YOT as well as demonstrated the shared commitment towards the long term development of the district.

     Speaking at the ceremony, Mrs Shi said that YOT has been making every effort to realise its motto of "Love and Care", adding that the proposed Centre will not only provide social services to the residents in Mei Foo and Sham Shui Po, but also provide creation space and performance platform for cultural, arts and recreational activities.

     Mr Kwok also shared the implementation process of the project by the SSPDC. He was pleased to collaborate with YOT, one of the most experienced charitable organisations in Hong Kong, on this project. The Centre, to be operated by YOT, will provide a variety of activities and services.

     Being one of the projects under Sham Shui Po district's Signature Project Scheme, the Centre will be located under Kwai Chung Road Flyover (Mei Foo Sun Chuen Section) with a number of multi-purpose rooms for organising activities of different nature. In addition to utilising the space underneath the flyover, the project will also engage local residents and enrich their lives. Subject to the funding approval by the Finance Committee, construction works will commence in late 2015 and will be completed in 2017.
