Starting from today (June 12), the discourse that took place during the "Dialogue! Publicly Engaged Art Practices" conference will be displayed at Oi! until July 12, showcasing the comments made by art practitioners during their discussion on publicly engaged art practices.
The "Dialogue!" conference was presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, jointly organised by the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre (vA!) and Oil Street Art Space (Oi!), with the Academy of Visual Arts of Hong Kong Baptist University, Department of Fine Arts of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Jockey Club Design Institute for Social Innovation of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University as academic partners. Conducted in December 2013, the "Dialogue!" conference invited veteran art practitioners, artists and scholars from the Mainland, Taipei, Macau and Hong Kong to discuss publicly engaged art practices.
At the conference the participating arts practitioners and academics used their knowledge and experience to examine topics including the relationship between art, people and the public; the self-initiated social engagement made by artists or curators; and the formation, interaction and sustainability of participatory art practices. The conference was aimed at seeking the formulation of strategic initiatives for the future. Documentation and video of speeches and discussions contributed by 44 participating speakers will be displayed, in which visitors may gain insight into the acceleration of art engagement.
