The Government today (May 22) announced that Mr Jack So Chak-kwong will take up the position of Chairman of the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) for a period of three years from June 1, 2015.
The Secretary for Transport and Housing, Professor Anthony Cheung Bing-leung, said Mr So is familiar with economic, trade and transport affairs, and has rich experience in public service. Professor Cheung added that he is looking forward to working closely with Mr So in maintaining Hong Kong International Airport's status as an international and regional aviation hub.
The Government will also appoint Mr Andrew Fung Hau-chung, Ir Billy Wong Wing-hoo and Dr Allan Zeman as Members of the AA for three years from June 1, 2015.
The incumbent Chairman, Mr Vincent Lo Hong-sui, and two Members, namely Mr Benjamin Hung Pi-cheng and Ir Lo Yiu-ching, will leave the AA from June 1, 2015.
Mr Lo has served as a Member of the AA since January 2013 and was appointed Chairman of the AA for one year in June 2014. Professor Cheung expressed his heartfelt thanks to Mr Lo for his leadership as Chairman of the AA, and in taking forward the three-runway system project and North Commercial District development. With the dedicated efforts of Mr Lo and other AA Members, the Hong Kong International Airport set new annual records last year when its passenger volume and cargo tonnage exceeded 63.3 million and 4.38 million respectively.
Professor Cheung also said he was very grateful to Mr Hung and Ir Lo for their invaluable contribution to the work of the AA during their tenure as Members of the AA.
Under the Airport Authority Ordinance, the Chairman and Members of the AA are appointed by the Chief Executive. The appointments will be gazetted on May 29, 2015.
