Implementation date for applying the new retirement age to civil service new recruits
***********************************************************

The Government announced today (March 23) that it would adopt a higher retirement age for new recruits with effect from June 1, 2015. Specifically, the retirement age of new recruits appointed to the Civil Service on or after June 1, 2015, will be raised to 65 in respect of the civilian grades, and 60 in respect of disciplined services grades, regardless of their ranks.

As announced in the 2015 Policy Address and Policy Agenda, the Government will raise the retirement age for civil service new recruits in mid-2015.  For serving civil servants, flexible measures for extending their service will be formulated with a view to addressing the different operational and succession needs of individual grades/departments, maintaining effective management of the Civil Service, and balancing the interests of different cohorts of civil servants.

A government spokesman added, "The Civil Service Bureau is hammering out the implementation details for the remaining measures including that for adjusting the further employment mechanism. The Bureau will maintain close dialogue with the management and staff sides in this regard."
