Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected cocaine at airport (with photos)
************************************************************

Hong Kong Customs yesterday (March 11) arrested an incoming male passenger at Hong Kong International Airport and seized 2 kilograms of suspected cocaine with an estimated market value of about $2 million.

The arrested person arrived from Bogota, Colombia, via Paris, France. Upon interception and in-depth personal search, the suspected drugs were uncovered from his body.

The 43-year-old arrested person, who claimed to be a construction worker, will be charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug. He will appear at Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (March 13).

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence and the maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.

This is the second case of a similar nature detected by Hong Kong Customs at the airport in the past two days. Hong Kong Customs will continue to keep track of the latest drug trafficking trend and formulate pertinent anti-narcotics enforcement strategies accordingly. In addition, Hong Kong Customs will strengthen intelligence exchange with various overseas law enforcement agencies so as to combat transnational drug trafficking activities.
