The Secretary for Education (SED), Mr Eddie Ng Hak-kim, will leave Hong Kong tomorrow (January 7) for a two-day duty visit to Malaysia with a view to strengthening the communication and co-operation in education between the two places. Malaysia is currently the third largest economy in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
Upon his arrival in Kuala Lumpur, Mr Ng will meet with senior education officials of Malaysia on issues of mutual concern, particularly the possibility of enhancing education co-operation between Hong Kong and Malaysia.
He will also meet with the presidents/vice-presidents of major higher education institutions in Malaysia to exchange views on academic collaboration and student exchanges between the higher education sectors of the two places.
To see the various types of higher education institutions in Malaysia, Mr Ng will visit the University of Malaya, which is a publicly funded university; the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, which is a private university; and Monash University Malaysia, which is a university from abroad.
During his visit to the University of Malaya, Mr Ng will give a keynote speech to its staff and students to introduce Hong Kong's education system and its role as a regional education hub.
Mr Ng will return to Hong Kong at night on January 8. While Mr Ng is away from Hong Kong, the Under Secretary for Education, Mr Kevin Yeung, will be the Acting SED.
