The Labour Advisory Board (LAB) By-election of Employee Representative will be held on March 14 (Saturday) at Wan Chai Activities Centre, LG/F, Wan Chai Market, 258 Queen's Road East, Wan Chai, Hong Kong, to fill the vacancy of an elected employee representative of the current 2015-16 term. Registration as electors, appointment of authorised representatives to vote and nomination of candidates for the by-election will start from January 9 and close on February 2.
"On January 9, we will send out the forms and copies of the rules and procedures related to the by-election to all employee unions with valid registration in the Labour Department's register of trade unions. Should there be more than one validly nominated candidate in the by-election, a poll will be held to fill the vacant office of an employee representative and authorised representatives may cast their votes at the polling station at Wan Chai Activities Centre between 11am and 4pm on March 14," a spokesperson for the Labour Department said.
All employee unions registered under the Trade Unions Ordinance on or before January 9 are eligible to nominate candidates to run for the by-election. Unions that have registered as electors in LAB elections held in 2006 or thereafter need not re-register as electors but have to appoint authorised representatives to vote in the by-election.
Enquiries on matters relating to the by-election can be made at 2852 4024.
The LAB is a tripartite consultative body comprising representatives of employees and employers to advise the Commissioner for Labour on labour matters. During their term of office, members of the LAB will also serve on the Standard Working Hours Committee as ex-officio members by virtue of their membership on the LAB. There is a vacancy in the current term of the LAB arising from the passing away of an elected employee representative owing to illness.
