The Transport Advisory Committee (TAC) submitted today (December 30) its report on the study of road traffic congestion in Hong Kong to the Transport and Housing Bureau.
Traffic congestion has increasingly become a cause for concern in the community and it affects all road users. The Government is determined to tackle the problem and the Secretary for Transport and Housing invited the TAC in March this year to conduct a study of road traffic congestion in Hong Kong. The TAC, with members of various professional or trade backgrounds, is considered the most relevant forum to study the congestion problem and to advise on how it could be tackled.
The TAC then set up a working group to identify various factors contributing to overall road traffic congestion in Hong Kong and to suggest short-, medium- and long-term practicable measures at the territorial level to contain traffic congestion for the Government's consideration.
The Acting Secretary for Transport and Housing, Mr Yau Shing-mu, thanked the TAC Chairman, Mr Larry Kwok, and the other members of the Working Group on Road Traffic Congestion for their efforts in completing the study and submitting the report to the Government within eight months. The Government will study thoroughly the suggestions proposed by the TAC, and will respond when appropriate.
