Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, on the wage claims by ATV employees today (December 29):
Reporter: ATV said that they will pay staff half of their wages today. What is the Government's next move? Will the Government take any legal actions?
Secretary for Labour and Welfare: The Labour Department has been very concerned about this case and, in fact, has been in contact with the management every day, reminding them of the obligation to pay the outstanding wages to all the staff. We gathered that the management has now indicated that they are prepared to pay half of the salary - outstanding salary - for November. But this is still not good enough. They have to fulfil the obligation entirely, and pay all the outstanding wages. Now, we are seeking the advice of the Department of Justice. If there is sufficient evidence, we will certainly institute prosecution without further ado.
