The Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service (BTS) today (December 1) appealed to people of the O positive and A positive blood groups to come forward as early as possible to donate blood, as the number of blood donors has noticeably dropped recently, which could make the supply of blood to patients fall short.
It is expected that some patients with chronic illness and elderly patients may be affected by the cold weather in the next few days and require hospitalisation. Therefore, there would be an increase in blood demand. To ensure adequate blood supply for patient treatment in hospitals, the BTS urges people to give blood. The BTS needs 1 100 bags of blood every day to maintain normal supply to hospitals.
