Complementing "Treasures from Tsarskoye Selo, Residence of the Russian Monarchs" - the largest Russian exhibition ever held in Hong Kong - the Hong Kong Museum of History has organised three sessions of Russian music to be held on November 16, December 28, and February 8 (Sundays) at 3pm in its lobby area to enrich visitors' experience in learning about the history and culture of Russia.
The three sessions will be performed by the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra in front of a large-scale projection of Tsarskoye Selo's Catherine Palace. The 360-degree virtual reality zone will enable visitors to view eight of its rooms in life size imagery and witness the splendour of the Palace.
Each performance will last for 45 minutes. An admission ticket to the "Treasures from Tsarskoye Selo, Residence of the Russian Monarchs" exhibition is required for entry to the music performances.
The Museum Director of the Hong Kong Museum of History, Ms Susanna Siu, said, "The Museum provides a learning platform for all people and they are welcome to come and visit and take part in our activities. We have already extended our services to the elderly, people with Alzheimer's disease and children in hospitals to provide them with an opportunity to participate in the museum activities."
The exhibition "Treasures from Tsarskoye Selo, Residence of the Russian Monarchs" is jointly presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Tsarskoye Selo State Museum-Preserve of Russia, with the Hong Kong Museum of History and the Tsarskoye Selo State Museum-Preserve of Russia as co-organisers. Solely sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, it is one of the exhibitions in the 2014 Hong Kong Jockey Club Series. The highlight exhibit is a richly decorated carriage with harnesses used for the coronation of Emperor Alexander II in Moscow in 1856.
The Hong Kong Museum of History is located at 100 Chatham Road South, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon. It is open from 10am to 6pm on weekdays, and from 10am to 7pm on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. It is closed on Tuesdays (except public holidays). The standard admission fee for the exhibition is $20. Groups of 20 persons or above can obtain a 30 per cent discount. The concession ticket is $10. Free admission on Wednesday is not applicable for this special exhibition.
