Research Grants Council public lecture on social considerations for urban renewal and urban planning to be held on September 28

The following is issued on behalf of the University Grants Committee:

     The Research Grants Council (RGC) will present the third public lecture of this year, with the theme of "Social Considerations for Urban Renewal and Urban Planning", on September 28 (Sunday) at the Hong Kong Central Library.

     The RGC has invited the Associate Head (Research) of the Department of Building and Real Estate at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Professor Edwin Chan, to share his research findings and knowledge with the public. Details are as follows:

Time: 2.30pm to 4.30pm
Venue: G/F Lecture Theatre, Hong Kong Central Library
Language: Cantonese
Free admission on a first-come, first-served basis.

     Professor Chan will give a talk entitled "Social Considerations in Planning Public Open Space to Integrate Elderly People in Urban Renewal". The talk will discuss the planning of urban areas to be upgraded and identify the potential social factors for providing open spaces, in order to address the needs of the elderly in urban outdoor activities, further improve their quality of life and facilitate their urban integration.

     Since 2009, leading scholars in their respective fields have been invited by the RGC to deliver public lectures. These lectures aim at arousing the public's interest in local research development.
