*******************************************************

The Labour Department organised a "Life Taking a Turn" video premiere today (July 31) to unveil three short videos on the encouraging stories of three ex-trainees of the Youth Employment and Training Programme (YETP) turning over a new leaf in their lives after joining the programme. The video series were jointly produced by YETP and Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) Radio 2.

The ceremony was officiated by the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung. Also attending the ceremony were the Commissioner for Labour, Mr Donald Tong, the Controller (Radio) of RTHK, Ms Lisa Liu, and artistes Sharon Tang and Gloria Yip.

Mr Cheung shared his work attitude and experience with participants and had an interactive exchange with the youngsters, including some 2014 Diploma of Secondary Education (DSE) graduates. He said that these real-life stories exemplified YETP's tailor-made services for youngsters with different training and employment needs. He encouraged the youngsters to be resilient and persevere in the face of any difficulties and treasure the opportunities in their career development. Mr Cheung also appealed to employers to continue with their support for YETP and to work with the Government in promoting youth development.

The three youngsters featured in the videos also attended the ceremony to share their experiences with the participants. They are Freddy Lee, who now works as a Unit Manager in an insurance company, Winky Chan, an Assistant Housekeeping Supervisor in a hotel, and Chen Zhou, a Line Maintenance Professional in an aircraft engineering company. They identified their career path through the on-the-job training and special employment projects of YETP. In addition to the encouragement and guidance of the employers and training bodies, their efforts and perseverance to overcome challenges at work are enabling them to look forward to a bright future.

Enrolment in YETP is free and accepted year round. School-leavers aged 15 to 24 with educational attainment at sub-degree level or below are welcome to join. For details, please visit the website of Youth Employment Services of the Labour Department at www.yes.labour.gov.hk. The department has also set up a Youth Employment Services hotline, 2112 9932, to provide a one-stop enquiry service on the programme and receive training vacancies from employers.
