Civil Aid Service Cadet Corps sets up non-Chinese speaking platoon (with photos)
***********************************************************

The Civil Aid Service (CAS) Cadet Corps has recently recruited a group of non-Chinese-speaking members and formed its first non-Chinese-speaking platoon to promote social cohesion.

This non-Chinese-speaking platoon has around 20 cadets from Pakistan, the Philippines, Nepal, Africa and other places. They recently attended the 85th Cadet Posting Ceremony of the CAS Cadet Corps. Witnessed by guests, CAS officers, teachers and parents, they took the oath of enrolment in the CAS Cadet Corps and promised to uphold the spirit of "Strict with Yourself and Others, Serve the Community".

Like other new cadets, the non-Chinese-speaking cadets will soon start a fulfilling life in the Cadet Corps. They will participate in diversified training, team activities and community service to acquire useful techniques and leadership skills, to build up their confidence, sense of responsibility and self-discipline, nurturing them to become good citizens and future leaders.

Since these non-Chinese-speaking cadets come from different religions and cultures, the CAS Cadet Corps, in order to respect cultural requirements, has slightly adjusted the uniform dress guidelines such as allowing female Muslim cadets to wear headscarves under berets and to wear skirts with leggings. In addition, CAS officers will communicate with them in English and interpreters will help those who are not proficient in English.

As a uniformed group in step with the times, the CAS will keep recruiting non-Chinese-speaking cadets in the future to strengthen their sense of belonging to the community and to promote social inclusion.
