The spokesperson for Queen Elizabeth Hospital gave the following update today (June 10) regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of Clostridium Difficile infection in a medical ward:
One more 88-year-old female patient in the ward concerned presented with diarrhoea symptoms. Appropriate testing was arranged for the patient and the test results were positive for Clostridium Difficile toxin. The patient concerned has been discharged.
Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.
The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
