To celebrate its 170th Anniversary, the Hong Kong Police Force is staging an exhibition with the theme "Serving the Community Over the Centuries" to illustrate the development of the Force and its service to the community.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Police Director of Personnel and Training, Mr Chau Kwok-leung, today (May 31) said the exhibits displayed at the former Wan Chai Police Station was a testimony to the Force's commitment to serve the community from the past to the present.
Visitors will have a better understanding of the Force history and the evolution it has undergone to meet the changing needs of the society.
Apart from a wide range of police uniforms, equipments as well as the service provided by the Force in different eras, various awards in recognition to the efforts of Force members in serving the community are also displayed. In addition, a video introducing the old and present police stations is shown at the venue.
Meanwhile, the Report Room and the Officers' Mess of the historic police station have been restored to their original condition. Vintage and serving police motorcycles are displayed at the compound for photo-taking. The Hong Kong Police Band will also perform at the venue.
The Hong Kong Police Force 170th Anniversary Exhibition will be held at the former Wan Chai Police Station at 123 Gloucester Road at three consecutive weekends. Members of the public are welcome to visit the exhibition until 6pm today, and from 10am to 6pm on June 1, 7, 8, 14 and 15. Admission is free.
