Commission on Youth Chairman inspects passing-out parade at HK Police College (with photos)
************************************************************

The Chairman of Commission on Youth, Mr Bunny Chan Chung-bun, inspected a passing-out parade for 50 probationary inspectors and 198 recruit constables at the Hong Kong Police College today (April 12).

Speaking at the parade, Mr Chan said that he hoped the graduates could keep in mind everything that have learned, and muster up the courage to take on challenges with all efforts when carrying out duties in the future.

He pointed out that it was not easy at all to be a member the Police nowadays. In the face of increasingly complicated social problems and the bigger number of social campaigns, Force members who are in the frontline have to apply professional knowledge with an extremely high level of emotional quotients at all times to deal with matters impartially and strictly according to reasons and law, so as to live up to the expectation of the people.

In any case, the graduates will never be alone in discharge of duties, he said. They have Force members who support and give encouragement to each other, seniors and predecessors who possess rich experience and members of the public who support the Police. They must be able to apply particular strengths to uphold law and order, and to enable good citizens to live peaceful lives, so that Hong Kong will continue to be the safest city in the world, he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Chan noted that youth epitomised the future of a society and that youngsters had to well utilise their time and opportunities, and equip themselves well for the future. Under the general climate of globalisation, youngsters do not only have to compete with peers of the same place, but also to compete with youngsters from Asia and even different parts of the world.

In the light of this, the Commission on Youth is undertaking a study on the competitiveness of youth to analyse the situation of the competitiveness of Hong Kong youth as well as their ability in adapting to the environment.

Though the outcome of the study will be of great help to formulating youth development plans, concerted effort of all sectors of the society to nurture the youth of the new age is more important, he said, in particular to encourage them to be independent and well-equipped to handle problems discerningly and rationally, so that they will contribute towards the overall future development of the society of Hong Kong with confidence.
