The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, today (March 3) expressed his profound sadness at the passing of the Principal of the Hong Kong Shue Yan University, Dr Chung Chi-yung.
"Dr Chung was a great educator who founded the Hong Kong Shue Yan University with her husband, Dr Henry Hu. Throughout the years, Dr Chung and her husband made generous financial contribution to education and demonstrated an unswerving will to fulfill their dreams. Her sterling effort and dedication in harbouring and nurturing talents for Hong Kong earned her great respect in the community.
"I am fortunate enough to have met the admirable Dr Chung and her husband 30 years ago. The Government and I are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dr Chung and extend our deepest condolences to Dr Hu and his family," Mr Leung said.
Dr Chung was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star in 2000.
