***************************************************

The Under Secretary for Security, Mr Lee Ka-chiu, inspected a passing-out parade for 16 station officers, three ambulance officers, 18 firemen and 22 ambulancemen at the Fire Services Training School today (December 20).

Speaking at the parade, Mr Lee said the Fire Services Department (FSD) had, for the seventh time in a row, won the gold prize for the Best Public Image Award in the Civil Service Outstanding Service Award Scheme 2013. This showed that the FSD¡¯s services have been widely recognised by the community, he said.

"To provide more professional and comprehensive training for fire and ambulance staff, construction works for the new Fire Services Training School at Pak Shing Kok, Tseung Kwan O, are under way. There will be specialised training grounds and simulation training facilities in the new school to allow fire and ambulance personnel more opportunities to be trained together, thereby enhancing their co-operation and capabilities in responding to emergencies and disasters.

"The school will also provide in-service training for graduates to further enhance their professional ability," he said.

Mr Lee congratulated the graduates on their completion of stringent training and encouraged them to strive for excellence in fulfilling their commitment to serve the community.

The parade was followed by a demonstration of fire-fighting and rescue techniques by the graduates. The graduates have each successfully completed 26 weeks of training and will be posted to various fire stations and ambulance depots for on-the-job training to gain field experience.
