Tom Dale Company from the UK will stage its production "I Infinite" in January next year. The show is part of the "I-sensation" Series and is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. "I Infinite" was featured in the 2011 Edinburgh Festival as part of the British Council's Edinburgh Showcase and has been well received by the public.
The show takes inspiration from the continuous evolution of the digital world and how its constant efforts to re-create nature, however fascinating, may be fundamentally flawed if it is to achieve its ultimate ambitions.
The production invites the audience to explore this quest by the digital world to re-create life. During the performance, members of the audience are free to roam around the immersive digitally animated environment and remain in close proximity to the dancer in order to see her refined movements. The spellbinding visual imagery and effects draw the audience to within centimetres of the performer, whose movements range from robotic isolation to liquid fluidity. Existing between the digital and organic worlds, the character embarks on a captivating journey to the infinite.
Formed in 2001, Tom Dale Company has established itself as belonging to the new wave of artists testing the boundaries of contemporary dance practice. The company creates collaborative performances, with a particular focus on the synergy between electronic music, the digital arts and dance. Its work has a strong philosophical approach, reflected within the abstract worlds it creates to explore global issues pertinent to contemporary society. Innovative worlds of performance are created as the company crafts work that is woven into the fabric of our times.
