The Hong Kong Red Cross Transfusion Service (BTS) will hold a Thanksgiving Blood Donation Week from this Saturday (November 16) to November 24. Anyone who successfully gives blood during this period will receive a Thanksgiving Bookmark, on which donors can write heartfelt messages to present to others. The souvenirs are available while stocks last.
In addition, the BTS will stage a Blood Donors Fun Day at its Headquarters at 15 King's Park Rise on December 14. The event will be both educational and fun, with game booths, exhibitions, talks, an introduction to Apheresis donation, the opening of the mobile collection vehicle and a medical info desk manned by a doctor, and more. The BTS will also accept pre-registration for the Blood Donation Recruiter Programme prior to its official launch in early 2014. Souvenirs will be available for the participating donors to take home. The BTS would like more people to roll up their sleeves in the coming weeks as it aims to collect 1 000 units of blood on average each day to meet the demand from clinical use. To stabilise blood supplies all year round, the BTS hopes the general public will spare the time and continue donating blood, whether it is sunny or rainy, a regular weekday or a holiday.
