The Subcommittee on Poverty of the Legislative Council's House Committee continued its duty visit to Taiwan today (August 22).
The delegation first visited and met with officials of the Bureau of Employment and Vocational Training of the Council of Labor Affairs under the Executive Yuan. In the afternoon, members of the delegation met with officials of the Department of Social Welfare and the Department of Labor of the Taipei City Government. They also visited low-cost housing in Taipei City, so as to learn about the free provision of low-cost housing for low-income families by the City Government. The delegation noted that such free provision of housing is supplemented with intensive counselling in order to help residents escape from poverty.
The delegation will visit the Ministry of Health and Welfare, as well as the Social Welfare and Environmental Hygiene Committee under the Legislative Yuan tomorrow (August 23). They will also meet with officials of the Labor Affairs Department and the Social Welfare Department of the New Taipei City Government. Moreover, the delegation will visit the senior day care centre in New Taipei City.
