An investment promotion seminar was held today (August 14) in Chaozhou by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Guangdong (GDETO) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The seminar aimed to encourage Chaozhou enterprises to "go global" via Hong Kong and to make use of Hong Kong as a platform for listing and capital raising.

The seminar was jointly organised by the GDETO together with the Chaozhou Bureau of Hong Kong and Macau Affairs, and Invest Hong Kong was the co-organiser.

Addressing the seminar, the Director of the GDETO, Mr Alan Chu, said, "The seminar aims to give an update of Hong Kong's business advantages and the latest economic developments in Hong Kong to entrepreneurs in Chaozhou."

On Hong Kong's advantages, Mr Chu said, "Following the successful implementation of 'One Country, Two Systems' and the Basic Law since the handover, Hong Kong continues to be an international financial, trade, shipping and tourism centre with unique advantages. These advantages together with the economic strengths of Chaozhou will lead to a win-win situation for both sides."

He added, "Hong Kong is the ideal platform for Mainland enterprises to 'go global'. Enterprises in Chaozhou can set up offices and raise capital in Hong Kong. In doing so, they would further grow and expand through acquiring the successful experience of top multinational corporations in Hong Kong."

About 740 Mainland enterprises had been listed in the Hong Kong exchange by the end of June this year, accounting for nearly 50 per cent of the total number of listed companies in Hong Kong, showing an encouraging response from Mainland enterprises for listing in Hong Kong.

A guest speaker from the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited gave a presentation on various issues related to listing and capital raising in Hong Kong. Representatives from the GDETO also gave presentations on Hong Kong's enduring business advantages and how Hong Kong can act as a platform for Mainland companies to "go global", as well as Hong Kong's Admission Scheme for Mainland Talents and Professionals. The seminar attracted over 100 participants including representatives from various government agencies and enterprises in Chaozhou.
