The Hong Kong Red Cross Transfusion Service (BTS) appeals to the public to continue with blood donation during the summer holidays. A cute bag with the tagline "I have given blood" will be presented to those who give blood between tomorrow (July 29) and August 15 while stocks last. By carrying the bag around, blood donors will also help encourage more people to donate blood.
The BTS currently needs to collect an average of 900 units of blood on a daily basis in order to meet the demand from clinical use. Traditionally, summer time is a low season for blood donation as students have their summer break and more people take overseas vocations. To stabilise blood supplies this summer, the BTS hopes the general public will spare some time and continue donating blood, whether it is sunny or rainy, a regular weekday or holiday.
