***********************************************************

The Permanent Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury (Financial Services), Miss Au King-chi, will lead a delegation to Guangzhou tomorrow (July 17) to attend the fifth meeting of the Expert Group on Hong Kong-Guangdong Financial Co-operation.

At the meeting, delegation members will exchange views with representatives of the relevant government departments and regulatory bodies in Guangdong Province and discuss ways to enhance and deepen financial co-operation between the two places, covering areas such as cross-border Renminbi business, banking, securities and insurance.

The delegation is composed of representatives from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, relevant financial regulatory institutions and the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited.

Joining the delegation in visiting Guangzhou are representatives from the securities sector. The representatives will attend a sectorial forum on Hong Kong-Guangdong financial exchange tomorrow afternoon, taking the opportunity to exchange ideas with their counterparts in Guangdong Province.

In accordance with the suggestion raised by the securities sector, a mutual consensus was reached earlier to establish a communication platform for the securities industries of Hong Kong and Guangdong Province to facilitate the exchange, promote mutual understanding and explore opportunities for future co-operation.

Hong Kong and Guangdong signed an agreement to establish the Expert Group on Hong Kong-Guangdong Financial Co-operation at the 12th Plenary of the Hong Kong/Guangdong Co-operation Joint Conference in August 2009.

The Expert Group provides a useful platform for financial services departments and regulators of both places to implement the Framework Agreement on Hong Kong/Guangdong Co-operation and explore further measures on financial co-operation.
