The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
The Hospital Authority (HA) spokesman today (July 16) announced that the GE Nuclear Medicine System installed in six public hospitals has resumed normal service after the completion of a thorough safety check of the System by the supplier.
The HA received a notification from GE Healthcare (GEHC) on July 5 recommending suspension of the use of the System due to the risk of parts of the System loosening, which might harm patients during use.
According to the HA spokesman, GEHC has conducted a thorough inspection of the System installations in six public hospitals including Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital, Queen Mary Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital, Prince of Wales Hospital and North District Hospital. The inspection results are satisfactory. Normal scanning services to both emergency and elective cases have now resumed.
The HA would like to extend its apologies to patients for any inconvenience that may have been caused in the System's suspension period.
